BREAKING: Warriors Include Another Player in Chris Paul-Jordan Poole Trade
After shocking the NBA world with their Jordan Poole for Chris Paul trade, the Golden State Warriors will also be sending Patrick Baldwin Jr. to the Washington Wizards, per The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The Athletic's Anthony Slater clarified the Patrick Baldwin Jr. inclusion in this trade, Tweeting the following:
"The Warriors, per [Shams Charania], are essentially flipping the Patrick Baldwin Jr. roster spot (and first round contract) for Trayce Jackson-Davis on a cheaper second round contract. Older prospect. This part of CP-Poole trade will be judged on which player is better quicker."
Baldwin has not gotten consistent playing time at the NBA level, but has shown real signs of potential with his size and shooting ability. This trade, which now includes Baldwin, has had NBA fans shocked all day. Chris Paul to the Warriors, especially for Poole, really came out of nowhere.
Paul's fit on the Warriors is an interesting one, as his addition gives them an additional ball-handler who could play alongside Steph Curry in certain lineups. While it would seemingly make the most sense for Paul to backup Curry, he will share the floor with him at times, which is something the Warriors will have to get creative with.
For now, the Warriors are hopeful that swapping Poole for Paul will help their pursuit of another championship next season. Losing Baldwin in the deal certainly hurts as well, but as Slater reported, they are acquiring Trayce Jackson-Davis in his place.
