Damian Lillard Gets Brutally Honest About Never Joining Warriors
While Damian Lillard is from Oakland, the Portland Trail Blazers star would never join Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. During a recent appearance on the It Is What It Is podcast, Lillard said, "As far as Golden State, I respect what they’ve been doing over the last eight, nine years, whatever. And I'm from there, obviously that's home, but I can't go be a part of that."
On Golden State already having Curry, a player at Lillard's position, the Trail Blazers star added, "They've won four championships, what I look like going to try to do that?… There's somebody that plays my position, that's behind LeBron, the best player of this era. To me that doesn't even make sense. I'd never do nothing like that, I'd lose every year before I go [to the Warriors]."
While Lillard wants to win, which is why he is requesting a trade from the Trail Blazers, he would rather lose than join the Warriors. This is interesting perspective, because while Golden State is undoubtedly the greatest team of this era, they are not the super-team they once were. The Miami Heat, Lillard's preferred destination, were just the Eastern Conference champions last season while Golden State went out in round two.
It's unlikely Golden State would attempt to deal for Lillard anyways, but they definitely won't after these comments.
