During a segment of ESPN's First Take, Stephen A. Smith read a text message he reportedly received from Michael Jordan in regards to the Steph Curry vs. Magic Johnson debate:

"Magic Johnson is easily the best point guard of all time," Stephen A. Smith said Jordan wrote. "Steph Curry is very close, but not in front of Magic. You must define 'point guard' to really have a serious debate. Steph Curry is by far the best shooter of all-time... but Magic Johnson invented the triple-double. Not true invented, but makes it more noticeable in terms of the impact on the game. It's a point guard stat, to be honest. Magic was the best... By the way, Magic has five NBA championships."

This has been a heated debate since Curry declared himself the greatest point guard ever during an appearance on Gil's Arena. While Curry was asked the question, and was not going out of his way to spark this debate, he did go with himself - while still acknowledging that the conversation is between he and Magic.

Curry has led the Golden State Warriors to four championships during his career, while Johnson led the Los Angeles Lakers to five. If Curry were to tie Magic in rings, perhaps more people would acknowledge him as the greatest point guard ever. For now, it remains a contentious debate.
