Stephen A. Smith Calls Out Steve Kerr for Resting Steph Curry, Warriors Stars
With the NBA implementing a new rule against star players resting, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith used the Golden State Warriors as an example, specifically calling out head coach Steve Kerr for a game last season.
"Last year Steve Kerr, one of the great coaches of all-time, good man... What he did last year was flat out wrong. You got a game in Indiana, and then I believe if I remember correctly, you had another game - you had a home game in Indiana, and then you had a trip to Salt Lake City for a game two days later. This man rests Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. Come on, now. You're doing that on purpose. No regard for fans. None."
While Smith said Curry, Thompson, and Green all sat out that game, it was actually just Curry and Green, as Thompson started and played 36 minutes. That said, had the NBA determined both Curry and Green were healthy under their newly implemented rules, there would have been a fine for Golden State.
This is where the new rules become tricky, because Curry was listed out for left ankle soreness that game, while Green was listed out with left hip tightness. This is how almost every team is listing star players on the injury report, even if their main reason for sitting out is rest, so it will be interesting to see how the NBA enforces this.
