Steve Kerr Gets Honest About Chris Paul in Starting Lineup
Speaking with the media on Monday afternoon, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was asked about his starting lineup - and specifically if Chris Paul will be part of it.
"We basically have six starters the way I look at it," Kerr said. "Only five can go each night, so I haven't decided yet what we're gonna do. I wanna see training camp. We're gonna try different combinations and take a look. Obviously all six guys are gonna play a lot of minutes for us. If this is gonna work, everybody has to embrace it, regardless of who is starting and who's not. It only works if the whole team buys in. I know these guys well. I know five of them really well, and I'm getting to know Chris. One thing I know about all of them, is they want to win more than anything."
Not committing to a lineup yet, Kerr wants to use camp as an opportunity to try different combinations. His "six starters" are of course Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, Kevon Looney, and Chris Paul, but one of those players will have to come off the bench. The likeliest scenario is Paul or Looney coming off the bench, with Golden State either opting to go small with a Curry, Paul, Thompson trio, or going more traditional with Paul observing the sixth man role.
For now, Kerr is using training camp to make that final decision.
