Steve Kerr Gives Assessment of New Warriors Veteran
While everyone in the NBA has been talking about Chris Paul joining the Golden State Warriors, the team also acquired another veteran who could potentially help the team as well - Rudy Gay.
In September, Rudy Gay signed a one-year, $3,196,448 contract with the Golden State Warriors. After having a first practice with the team, Warriors coach Steve Kerr gave an early assessment of what he saw from the veteran.
"Rudy's been great," Kerr said. "He looks good, he's feeling good. I talked to him today. He's just a pro. He's been around the league for a long time, so he recognizes everything that's happening on the floor. Obviously, very talented, very skilled player. It's great to have him here in camp, we'll see how it plays out over the next few weeks."
Last season, Rudy Gay averaged 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds on 38/25/86 shooting with the Utah Jazz. While those numbers don't jump off the page at all, Rudy Gay will always be an offensive threat because of his size and ability to score the ball. Gay has been a double-digit scorer for fourteen straight years until the last two years of his career, so that capability will always be there. On a team like the Golden State Warriors, Rudy Gay will surely have the spacing for some wide-open shots, it's all going to be a matter of whether he can make the shots.
