Warriors Reportedly 'Really Wanted' Alex Caruso Trade
The Golden State Warriors did not make too many dramatic moves during the trade deadline. The biggest move they made was essentially trading James Wiseman for Gary Payton II. Apparently, that wasn't the only move they wanted to make.
According to a report from Zach Lowe, the Golden State Warriors "really wanted" Alex Caruso at the trade deadline. However, there was reportedly nothing close to a deal for Caruso, as the Chicago Bulls were asking for a "ransom" for Caruso.
Alex Caruso would have been a tremendous fit for the Golden State Warriors. He can run the transition, shoot the three-ball, and play great defense. Everything he does perfectly syncs up with what the Golden State Warriors want out of their players.
While attaining Gary Payton II was a great move for the Warriors, once he can play, it's hard to tell if the team needed to do anything more. On one end, they have days where it looks like they can compete with anyone like they've done against the Boston Celtics. On the other end, the Warriors' defense has been bad the entire season and nowhere near what a championship defense looks like, even with Steph Curry in the lineup.
The Golden State Warriors really aren't in a position to make rash moves and blow potions of the team up for a player like Alex Caruso, even if it's a perfect fit. However, if the desired results don't come this season, it should definitely be something they consider next season.
