All NBA Defensive Teams Have Been Announced And An Injury May Have Kept This Player Off The List
On Wizards Media Day, Delon Wright shared with the media that achieving all NBA Defensive status was a goal of his. Wright has shown his defensive instinct since his collegiate days at the University of Utah. In the article Meet the Wizards: Delon Wright, Inside the Wizards Staff Writer Carita Parks noted Wright’s collegiate Pac-12 All-Defensive accolades.
Just four games into the 2022-2023 NBA season, Wright obtained a grade two right hamstring strain that would ultimately have him out of the lineup for 29 consecutive games. To say this injury hurt the Wizards defensively and Wright’s chances of making All NBA is an understatement. His presence was missed immediately as seen by the losing streak the team went on and was noted by former Wizards President and General Manager Tommy Sheppard as “the injury early in the season that may have impacted the team the most.”
When the All NBA Defensive team results came out, Wright had this to say on Twitter:
Wright’s Utah and Wizards teammate Kyle Kuzma had this to say in response to Wright’s tweet:
Inside the Wizards Staff Writer Tyrone Montgomery noted this in “This Washington Wizards Quietly Had A Great Season”:
Wright only appeared in 50 games this season, but he definitely made the most out of his time on the floor. As a matter of fact, he shot a career high from the field at 47%. He was able to stretch the floor at times and aggressively attack the basket too. That worked in his favor because he was efficient from the line shooting 87% there. But it didn’t end there. Delon Wright was one of the Wizards best perimeter defenders as well as he led the team with two steals per game.
Hopefully the next Wizards President and General Manager will see what was clear in Wright’s defensive ability and keep him on the roster.
