Former Clemson standout Tajh Boyd to play in FXFL

Former standout Clemson quarterback and New York Jets' sixth-round draft selection Tajh Boyd will play in something called the Fall Experimental Football League

Former standout Clemson quarterback and New York Jets' sixth round draft selection Tajh Boyd has signed a deal to play for the Florida Blacktips of the Fall Experimental Football League, according to the league's Twitter account. The Newark Star-Ledger's Darryl Slater first reported the news. 

Boyd's signing in the FXFL marks a swift departure from his NFL draft selection and a potential NFL career. Boyd worked out for other NFL teams as recently as a week ago, with Buffalo and the New York Giants rumored to be potential landing spots for the quarterback.

The FXFL is a developmental football league featuring four teams with each team playing a six-game schedule. This is the league's inaugural year of operation.

Boyd threw for 11,904 yards and 107 touchdowns during his career at Clemson, marks good enough for 24th and 15th all-time among college quarterbacks. He was unable, however, to even compete with Matt Simms for the Jets' third-string quarterback position, Slater wrote. 

Boyd will play his first "professional" football game with Florida on Oct. 8 against the Brooklyn Bolts.
