49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick got his team on the board quickly in his first start of the season on Sunday.

Early in the second quarter, Kapernick found a wide-open Torrey Smith for a 53-yard touchdown pass. It was his first touchdown since Oct. 18 of last year, and Smith’s second touchdown catch of the season.

The score gave the Niners an early 10–7 lead over the Bills.

Kaepernick’s last touchdown was a 21-yard pass to Quinton Patton against the Ravens in Week 6 last year.

Blaine Gabbert started the first five games at quarterback for the 49ers but was benched in favor of Kaepernick after going 1–4.
