QB Start of the Week: Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (vs. PHI)
Even though things started slowly last week, Buffalo’s Josh Allen still finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in Week 7. On a per-game basis, Allen is fantasy’s QB13 this season. Things may not always go smoothly for Allen, but the second-year quarterback has either thrown two touchdowns and/or rushed for a touchdown in five of six games this season.
It’s another favorable matchup for Allen this week even if it’s not as favorable as last week’s matchup against Miami. Philadelphia has allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game (270.6) this season. In addition, only five teams have allowed more passing touchdowns than the Eagles (14) in 2019. Given his dual-threat abilities, Allen has plenty of upside in another fantasy-friendly matchup.
QB Sit of the Week: Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns (at NE)
Baker Mayfield and the Browns entered the 2019 season with loads of hype. So far, however, Mayfield has fallen short of everyone’s expectations.
No quarterback has thrown more interceptions (11), even though Cleveland’s had their bye, and he’s thrown twice as many picks as touchdowns (five) this season. In addition, he has yet to throw more than a single touchdown in any game.
Speaking of single passing touchdowns, the Patriots have allowed only one passing touchdown—all season. In addition to allowing a league-low passing touchdown (one), they have intercepted a league-high 18 passes. Carolina is second, but with only half as many (nine).
Nearly two-touchdown underdogs, Cleveland (16.25) has the third-lowest implied total in Week 8 based on Vegas odds ahead of only Washington (13.0) and Miami (14.5).
Bouncing back against the league’s stingiest fantasy defense for opposing quarterbacks seems unlikely. The next quarterback to score double-digit fantasy points against the Patriots will be the first as no quarterback has scored more than 9.74 fantasy points (Ben Roethlisberger, Week 1) against them this season.
