Texans to Hire 49ers’ Bobby Slowik as Offensive Coordinator, per Report
The Texans are expected to hire 49ers offensive assistant Bobby Slowik as their next offensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports. Slowik spent last season as the 49ers’ pass game specialist.
Slowik and new Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans have coached together as assistants in San Francisco for the past six years. Both Slowik and Ryans began as defensive quality control coaches, with Slowik later switching to offense while Ryans worked his way up the defensive staff.
Because Ryans comes from the defensive side of the ball, his offensive coordinator hire is an important one. Houston owns the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL draft, and there is a strong possibility that the Texans will enter next season with a rookie starting quarterback.
The Texans finished among the NFL’s bottom three teams in points scored, yards gained and turnovers lost for the 2022 season. Slowik will replace Pep Hamilton as offensive coordinator after Hamilton spent one year in that role for the team. Slowik will join expected defensive coordinator Matt Burke as Ryans’s two prominent assistants next year.
