Jets GM Has Honest Admission About What Team Gave Up in Aaron Rodgers Trade

The Packers received four draft picks in return for sending the veteran quarterback to New York.

The Jets officially traded for longtime Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Monday after months of negotiating terms with Green Bay.

After the details of the trade emerged, fans generally thought the Packers won the deal. Even with that sentiment, Jets general manager Joe Douglas seems to be happy about the trade solely because they finally got Rodgers as their quarterback.

“We’re comfortable with how this deal is shaped,” Douglas said during a Tuesday press conference. “In any negotiation, I don’t think anyone walks away where you feel you won everything. But ultimately our goal from the beginning was to add Aaron to the team. We were able to agree to terms on that yesterday and excited to get him in here.”

The two teams settled on a deal that consisted of the Jets sending the 2023 No. 13 pick, a ’23 second-round pick, a ‘23 sixth-round pick and a conditional ‘24 second-rounder to the Packers. Next year’s second-rounder could turn into a first-round selection if Rodgers plays 65% of the offensive snaps this season. In return, the Jets received Rodgers, this year’s No. 15 pick and a ‘23 fifth-round pick.

Douglas added that the swap of the No. 13 and 15 picks in this week’s NFL draft was “one of the last things to be agreed to.”
