Jets Showed Interest in Rams QB Brett Rypien After Aaron Rodgers Injury, per Report

While Zach Wilson is the team’s new starter, New York is looking at some other quarterbacks to potentially sign.

Since the Jets lost Aaron Rodgers for the 2023 season after he tore his Achilles on Monday night, there’s been a lot of discussion about which quarterback New York could pick up in his absence.

Jets coach Robert Saleh made it clear that Zach Wilson is the team’s starter from here on out, but the team is still planning to look at veterans and young quarterbacks to add to the roster.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jets had interest in potentially bringing in Rams backup Brett Rypien, but Los Angeles promoted him to its active roster on Thursday. Fowler added that the Rams made this move earlier than Sunday because of their knowledge of the Jets’ interest in Rypien.

The interest was reportedly sparked by the fact that Rypien played for the Broncos last season while Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was the head coach in Denver.

But, with rookie Stetson Bennett on the non-football injury list for some time, it made sense for the Rams to elevate Rypien to be Matthew Stafford’s backup. 

With their quarterback room now secure, the Rams will face NFC West rivals the 49ers on Sunday.
