Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is poised to break an NFL record on Sunday when he takes the first snap on offense for New York under center.

With a start on Sunday, DeVito will become the 10th different rookie quarterback to start a game this season, which would set a new NFL record.

DeVito, who began the year as New York’s third-string quarterback, was thrust into the fold following injuries to starter Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor. Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, while Taylor is expected to miss at least four weeks with a rib cage injury suffered in Week 8. He was placed on injured reserve last week.

The Giants added veteran quarterback Matt Barkley to the practice squad on Wednesday, and the team has plans to elevate him to the active roster to serve as DeVito’s backup moving forward.

In limited action this season, DeVito has completed 17 of his 27 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown to two interceptions.

The Giants face the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
