Raiders’ Antonio Pierce Seemed to Subtly Troll Josh McDaniels About Davante Adams
Antonio Pierce has won over many Raiders fans after his 2–0 start as the team’s interim head coach. But comments following Week 10’s 16–12 win over the Jets may add a few more fans to his corner as well.
When speaking with the media, Pierce addressed a broad range of topics, one of which was star wide receiver Davante Adams. Pierce was blunt about utilizing Adams and making sure to get him involved early, but the comments sure sounded like a bit of underhanded trolling at former coach Josh McDaniels.
“The first couple plays were right to him,” Pierce told the media following the win. “Get the ball in his hands, get him going. When you’ve got one of the best receivers in the game, I’m not stupid. I know who to get the ball to.”
Adams finished the game with six catches on 13 targets for 86 yards. The usage of Adams was a common frustration for many Raiders fans under McDaniels. While the team’s top wideout had games with 13 and 20 targets, there were other matchups in which he received just four and five.
Regardless, it’s apparent Pierce is well aware of the fact that Adams needs to be heavily involved in the offensive game plan, which is great news going forward.
