Chiefs Run the Best Trick Play of the Season and Blow It With a Mind-Boggling Penalty
The Chiefs and Bills put together another instant classic on Sunday, and it almost ended with the wildest trick play of the NFL season.
Late in the fourth quarter with the Bills leading 20-17, the Chiefs had the ball near midfield, needing a field goal to tie and a touchdown to win.

Facing second-and-10, Patrick Mahomes found tight end Travis Kelce open about 20 yards downfield. Kelce worked the space he had, but rather than going down with the ball, he pivoted and threw a backwards pass across the field to wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who was streaking down the field uncovered.
Toney crossed the goal line and the crowd at Arrowhead Stadium erupted.
For a moment, it looked as though the Chiefs had taken the lead with the most exciting trick play of the season.
Unfortunately for Kansas City, the play would not stand, as the officials determined that Toney had lined up in the neutral zone and was flagged for offside.
The Chiefs drive would stall out from there, and the Bills would hold on to win 20-17.
Even though the trick play didn't work for Kansas City this time, it was still an impressive display of just how creative Mahomes, Kelce, and company can be on the field.
