Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman Call Bull on Bill Belichick Rumors
A report came out earlier this week regarding Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s future with the franchise.
NBC Sports Boston insider Tom Curran said the team has already made a “decision” on Belichick’s future following the 2023 season. Belichick didn’t answer questions about the report directly when speaking to media this week either. So, there’s a lot of gray area within the situation.
However, former Patriots players Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, who know Belichick pretty well, can’t see the coach being done with the team quite yet.
“I don’t think it’s like 100% done,” Edelman said on Thursday’s Up & Adams. “I don’t think either of them on either side are thinking about that right now, or at least on Bill’s side. Bill’s probably just going to play the season out and worry about trying to win football games. It won't hit me until it’s actually hit.”
Gronkowski believes there’s still plenty of football to be played, which would be the focus of Belichick’s mind right now.
“I agree with Julian, I think those reports are kind of, they’re not too far stretched out there,” Gronkowski added. “I think there’s still some season left to play. Coach Belichick can definitely prove himself. And, if you asked him in the media this week, ‘Hey, are these reports true? What do you think about it?’ and he just kept saying, ‘I’m onto Kansas City.’ I think that’s a great answer.”
The Patriots currently hold a 3–10 record with four games to play. Belichick has never finished a season with less than five wins. The Patriots finished the 2000 campaign—Belichick’s debut season in New England—with a 5–11 record.
