49ers’ Christian McCaffrey Suspects Nefarious Motive for 6 a.m. Fire Alarm
Christian McCaffrey didn’t appreciate the early wake-up call he and his San Francisco 49ers teammates received early Thursday morning at their hotel on the outskirts of Las Vegas.
A fire alarm sounded at the hotel property around 6 a.m. for about 18 minutes, with hotel engineers later noting that it was a false alarm.
But McCaffrey expressed suspicion about the incident while speaking to reporters on Thursday afternoon during the 49ers’ final media session before Super Bowl LVIII.
The star running back said the “random” alarm is “just more wood thrown onto the fire” for the 49ers, clearly implying the culprit responsible for the alarm is a Kansas City Chiefs supporter.
“As soon as the fire alarm went off, I just laughed. I’m like ‘Of course this would happen.’ It’s part of it. Is it random? No, I think there’s no way it’s random. It’s just more wood thrown onto the fire,” McCaffrey said.
The 49ers already have contended that their practice field at UNLV is a “disadvantage,” citing that the surface is softer than the usual grass turf of an NFL field.
San Francisco, favored by 1.5 points, and the Chiefs will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
