Andy Reid Believes Chiefs Will Do What They Can to Bring Back Chris Jones
The Kansas City Chiefs could not have won Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers without veteran defensive lineman undefined. Now, Jones is set to hit free agency, but the Chiefs would clearly prefer he remains in Kansas City.
At his press conference on Tuesday, coach Andy Reid made it clear that he and general manager Brett Veach want Jones to return.
“I think Veach has said it before—we’d love to have him back,” Reid said. “They’ve just got to work all that out, but I think the effort will be there probably on both parts to try to get something done.”
Reid understands Jones’s importance to the team, as evidenced by their interaction after the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Last year, Jones held out during the offseason and even missed the first game of the season before signing a one-year deal to get back on the field. Jones proceeded to play in 16 games, totaling 10.5 sacks while making a fifth straight Pro Bowl and a fifth All-Pro team.
Jones will be 30 years old when the 2024 season begins, so this is his time to get paid for all of his production. The defensive tackle has been the cornerstone of one of the best defenses in the league, accumulating 16 tackles and 2.5 sacks in seven games over the past two postseasons.
