Eric Bieniemy Disputes Report of Firing by Commanders, per Report
Former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is set to take the OC job with UCLA, according to ESPN. In an interview with the network, Bieniemy also disputed reports that the Commanders fired him after his lone season with the team.
“I have no regrets with the Commanders,” Bieniemy wrote in an email to ESPN. “Contrary to what some think and what has been put out in the media, I was not fired. I actually just chose not to stay. Learned a lot and that is always a good thing.
“I will continue my walk in my peace,” he continued. “I’m excited to be here and to coach these young men and football again. My expectations and desire to be excellent will never be turned down. I’m fired up. Let’s go.”
The Washington Post reported Feb. 8 that new Commanders coach Dan Quinn fired Bieniemy, who had fulfilled the first season of a two-year contract. Bieniemy did not comment to the Post at the time.
This will be Bieniemy’s first college coaching job since he served as OC at his alma mater, Colorado, in 2012.
