Carlos Dunlap Pays Tribute To Former Teammate A.J. Green Upon Retirement

The two played together in Cincinnati throughout the 2010s.

CINCINNATI — Former Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap is playing in the Super Bowl this weekend for the Kansas City Chiefs.

He was a teammate with A.J. Green for the better part of 10 seasons and had plenty of glowing comments about Green as the wide receiver enters retirement.

The two grew up battling each other in high school and eventually achieved their dreams on the same NFL team.

"He's over-delivered on everything and all the expectations that we thought that he would do as a Bengal, as a teammate, as a friend, as a former rival in high school," Dunlap said. "He's been doing what you guys are seeing. I think it's a no-brainer that he'll be a Bengal great. And I'm excited for him and his new season. You know, now that he's done playing football and decided that he wants to hang it up. I'm glad that he was able to, you know, do it on his terms. And that last touchdown that he had speaks to what he's been able to do his whole career."

Green scored a deep touchdown in his final game with Arizona. It stamped a stellar receiving career. From 2011-17, Green posted 273 more deep receiving yards than any other player.

"Appreciate you as a family man, the tone you set," Dunlap continued. "He doesn't say much. I'm probably saying more than he said his whole career. I don't want to speak for him, but we appreciate the man you are, the teammate you are, the friend you are, the competitor you are, the community leader you are, and enjoy your next season."

Speaking of next season, it feels like a no-brainer decision to bring Green back as Ruler of the Jungle for one of the nine home games.
