Duke Tobin On Joe Mixon's Future: 'I Don't Have The Answers'

Cincinnati could save a significant amount of money by releasing the running back.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Bengals running back Joe Mixon could be a cap casualty this offseason, and director of player personnel Duke Tobin gave an interesting view on the veteran's future.

Cincinnati can save over $7 million against the cap by releasing Mixon.

"Joe's been a vital part of our team. He's been a successful part of our team," Tobin said about Mixon. "Again, I'm not going to predict the offseason because I don't have the answers.

"In the words of the great Kevin Malone, 'I don't know' We'll all see as the offseason goes with what we're able to get done. And how the resources are spread around. But Joe has been a vital part of our team. My job is to try to keep as many of those pieces around as long as we can."

Mixon was down to 3.9 yards per carry this season and one of the least explosive running backs in the NFL.

The Bengals could get a lot cheaper, and more dynamic, at running back if they retained Samaje Perine and drafted a rookie with a mid-round pick.

Answers on the Bengals definite free agents start arriving in the next few weeks.
