Ja'Marr Chase Dives Into How Much a 100-Catch Season Means to Him: 'Something I Want to Achieve'
CINCINNATI — Ja'Marr Chase isn't happy with how this Bengals season has played out, but he's still ready to be there for his teammates on Sunday and achieve a personal goal: 100 catches in an NFL season for the first time.
The Pro Bowl wide receiver has amassed 96 catches (12th in NFL), for 1,197 yards (11th) and seven receiving touchdowns (t-13th) this season.
"Pretty important to me just overall," Chase said about the goal. "Just means that I'm stacking, getting better as my season gets better. So overall, it's just something I want to achieve."
Chase would have to go ballistic to eclipse T.J. Houshmandzadeh's Bengals single-season record of 112 catches, but he can pass Carl Pickens for the second-highest mark in team history (100 catches twice).
Still, he'd rather play for things greater than individual statistics.
"Yeah, honestly just going through the phase we went through this year, it's just gonna sit on me," Chase said about the toughest win/loss year of his young career. "This offseason, just being at home by myself training and finally feeling that surreal moment that I'm not in the playoffs this year for the first time. So probably just give me that drive and push while I'm on the couch."
