Joe Mixon on Proposed Playoff Changes: 'We Not Following The Rules No More?'
CINCINNATI — Bengals running back Joe Mixon joined team vice president Katie Blackburn in her displeasure with the 2023 NFL playoff proposals owners are voting on this afternoon.
The playmaker took to Twitter and highlighted the rules that could get changed in the middle of the season.
Under the current NFL rulebook, Cincinnati is hosting a home playoff game as AFC North Champions.
"If a game is cancelled, a team's standing in its division or in its conference (e.g., qualification as a Wild Card in the playoffs or position in playoff seeding) shall be determined on the basis of its final record," The rulebook states. "When necessary, playoff tiebreakers shall be calculated according to the per-game average for all teams."
The new proposal changes the per-game average (win %) playoff tiebreaker criteria. If the Bengals lose on Sunday and end up scheduled against Baltimore in a 3-6 seed matchup, then they will hold a coin toss to see who gets home-field advantage.
Mixon, Blackburn, media members, and fans all seem to agree that Cincinnati is getting a raw deal in the decision.
That being said, beat a banged-up Ravens team on Sunday, and none of this matters. Cincinnati will host an AFC Wild Card game by winning the season finale.
The Bengals and Ravens clash at 1 p.m. ET this Sunday on CBS. Watch via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
