Lamar Jackson's Uncertain Future Could Impact Bengals' Negotiations With Joe Burrow

Cincinnati is hoping to sign Burrow to an extension this offseason.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar Jackson, which means the former NFL MVP is free to negotiate with teams once the legal tampering period begins next week.

Ultimately, it could mean Jackson receives a fully guaranteed contract, much like Deshaun Watson got from the Browns last offseason.

Multiple teams will push to sign the 26-year-old and guaranteed money will entice Jackson and could discourage the Ravens from matching the contract.

This could also impact the quarterback market, which includes Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Burrow, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie contract and while Cincinnati will exercise his fifth-year option, the franchise is hoping to sign him to a long-term extension this offseason.

"Sooner is better, but we're not gonna rush the process," Bengals Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin said last week. "We're gonna try to get the right deal for Joe and the right deal for the Cincinnati Bengals."

The right deal might need to come in the near future, before Jackson resets the quarterback market and directly impacts their contract talks with Burrow.
