Report: Bengals 'Have Not Decided' On Joe Mixon's Future; Won't Franchise Tag Jessie Bates III

Cincinnati has a few big financial decisions to make this offseason.

CINCINNATI — ESPN's Jeremy Fowler gave an update on the Bengals' offseason plans this week in his NFL Combine report. 

One key nugget concerned running back Joe Mixon. Fowler reports Cincinnati has not decided on his future.

They can save over $7 million in cap space by cutting the running back this offseason.

"The Cincinnati Bengals are focused on keeping their own talent, starting with extending quarterback Joe Burrow and at least exploring that option with wide receiver Tee Higgins (2024 free agent)," Fowler wrote. "The team has not decided on the future of running back Joe Mixon ($12.7 million cap hit). And the Bengals are not expected to franchise-tag safety Jessie Bates III a second time, but they are following his market and will be on the lookout for safety help. They could possibly re-sign Vonn Bell, who played very well for Cincy."

The next month should shed a lot more light on Joe Mixon's future as a Bengal, same for Jessie Bates III, who seems even more likely to land on a new team.

Cincinnati has tasted the thrill of a Super Bowl berth in recent years—their moves this offseason will help decide how close they get to lifting that trophy next February.
