Bengals Address Trenches, But Pass on Top Defensive Tackle in Latest Mock Draft
CINCINNATI — The Bengals have the No. 18 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. There's a good chance that they take a trench player with that selection.
Cincinnati took Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton in Eric Edholm's latest mock draft for NFL.com. The 6-7, 328 pound lineman performed well at the Senior Bowl and could certainly end up being the pick for the Bengals. If he makes it to No. 18.
"After watching Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, I'm afraid I might have Guyton too low here," Edholm wrote. "He's not the most experienced tackle in this class, but the Oklahoma product has more upside than a few linemen I have going earlier. Wide receiver could wind up being a need for Cincinnati, especially if Tee Higgins leaves in free agency. But if Jonah Williams departs, offensive tackle might be a more pressing need."
This mock isn't as much about who the Bengals draft, but more about who they passed on and where that player ends up. Illinois defense tackle Jer'Zhan Newton is still on the board for the Bengals and ultimately falls to the Ravens at pick No. 30.
Newton is considered the first or second best defensive tackle in the 2024 class and has a chance to be an instant game changer in the middle of any defense.
Passing on him would be tough, but having him fall to Baltimore would add insult to injury. It is worth noting that the Bengals have drafted a defensive tackle in the first round since 1994 when they took Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson with the No. 1 overall pick.
