Jessie Bates Congratulates Derwin James After Chargers' Safety Signs Record-Setting Deal
CINCINNATI — Jessie Bates congratulated star safety Derwin James on Wednesday afternoon after he agreed to a four-year, $76.6 million contract with Los Angeles.
James becomes the highest-paid safety in NFL history.
"Congrats Derwin James," Bates wrote on Instagram with the hashtags "Earned Not Given" and "Family Ties."
The Bengals placed the franchise tag on Bates in March. He still hasn't reported to training camp after the two sides couldn't agree to a long-term contract before the July 15 deadline.
Bates is set to make $12.91 million this year, assuming he reports to the Bengals and signs the franchise tender before the start of the regular season.
Bates and James are both represented by David Mulugheta of Athlete’s First.
