Bills BREAKING: Nyheim Hines OUT for Season; Sign Zeke or Dalvin?

Nyheim Hines sustained an “off-site” knee injury which will keep him out the entirety of this season, leaving the Bills with a hole that may require some free-agent shopping.

The Buffalo Bills are getting the week off to an awful start with the early Monday news that they will not have the services of running back and special-team standout Nyheim Hines in 2023.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Hines sustained an “off-site” knee injury which will keep him out the entirety of this season.

Hines, 26, was acquired via trade by Buffalo from the Indianapolis Colts at the 2022 NFL trade deadline. That swap saw the Bills send running back Zach Moss to Indy ... and Hines eventually paid off in a big way with a spectacular effort as a kick returner. Who can forget his "storybook'' effort in the first game following the Damar Hamlin injury?

The Bills and Hines worked together and agreed to a restructured contract this offseason, a sign of how important the club thinks he is as a keeper at the right price.

What's next? There is probably more need to shop'' for a return guy than there is a running back; Buffalo has depth there. But surely this will cause the front office to take another look at what is available to help out behind the James Cook-led running back room. Dalvin Cook has seemingly been deemed to pricy; we've reported that in addition to his potential legal woes (a domestic violence lawsuit), he wants $10 million APY. Another name likely to pop up is two-time NFL rushing champion Ezekiel Elliott, a former Dallas Cowboys star now a free agent coming off a season in which he scored 12 touchdowns.
