Cowboys' Jerry Jones Cites Weather As Reason for Bills' Blowout

Jerry Jones partly blames wet and windy weather for his Dallas Cowboys' all-around no-show against the Buffalo Bills.

Jerry Jones appears to have more issues with Mother Nature than he does James Cook.

The Dallas Cowboys owner took to the radio in DFW to make his first public comments after "America's Team'' fell to the Buffalo Bills in a 31-10 no-show on Sunday. While Jones was critical of his group, citing "untimely mistakes" and an inability to "finish," he also had a stormy attitude toward the Orchard Park forecast.

“I would say the other night, weather, for instance. One was wet, one's dry," Jones told 105.3 The Fan, referencing the Cowboys' difference in their play at home and on the road. "You say the other team has to play in the wet, too, yeah, they do, but I'm just giving you a difference. We have perfect conditions to play in at home. We've got the elements a lot of times on the road.”

Despite rain that arrived in the game's latter stages (and with Buffalo's multi-possession lead well-established), Dallas probably got off a bit easy in terms of Buffalo weather: temperatures hovered in the upper-40s throughout Sunday's game, which could constitute as tropical in Western New York in December. Precipitation certainly didn't tamper with the Bills (8-6), who racked up 266 yards and three scores on the ground as a team.

The loss to the Bills continued an uncanny trend for the Cowboys. Within the element-protected confines of AT&T Stadium, Dallas (10-4) is undefeated in seven games with the winning margin standing at over 24 points. Away from Arlington, Dallas has dropped four next to a trio of uninspiring victories (NY Giants, LA Chargers, Carolina).

To his credit, Jones did not let his players off the hook for "not show(ing) up."

"We didn't finish, period," Jones remarked. "Plays, tackles, series ... anything. When that happens you're going to lay an egg."

Despite the loss, Dallas retained possession of first place in the NFC East and the postseason home game that comes with it: in a development Jones labeled "marvelous," the Philadelphia Eagles dropped a 20-17 decision to the Seattle Seahawks in the Monday night wrap-up.

Though Jones and Co. escaped from Western New York, the elements might be waiting for them next weekend: as the Cowboys face another interconference clash with the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Eve (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox), a 35 percent chance of precipitation lingers in the South Beach area. The Bills would be tied for first place in the AFC East with a Dolphins loss and their own win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night (8 p.m. ET, Peacock).
