Bills TE Dalton Kincaid Reveals 'Standard' of Buffalo's Preseason

Buffalo Bills rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid still wants to win despite preseason games not meaning anything long-term.

The Buffalo Bills fell short in their second preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday, losing 27-15 in what was mostly a dominant performance by the home team.

And while the NFL preseason doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, it serves the same purpose as spring training for the MLB, which is to help players get back into the swing of football season. Yet, that doesn't impact the desires of the Bills, according to rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid.

"I feel like everyone on the team, myself included, is super competitive, and we don't want to go out there and lose any given week, even if it's preseason," Kincaid said Tuesday. "So I don't think there's much of a change, at least hearing it from them. But we want to win, and that's kind of the standard, so that's the goal."

The rookie first-round pick made the most of his first preseason snaps. Despite the Bills' starting offense not getting much going, Kincaid earned praise from coach Sean McDermott and quarterback Josh Allen post-game.

Kincaid played just 26 snaps on Saturday in Pittsburgh yet finished second on the team in receiving with 45 yards on three receptions.

“Kincaid came out and made some really nice plays for us. That’s a positive sign,” Allen said after the game about what he saw from the rookie.

Thursday's comments are just the latest from Allen, as he's already praised the rookie for his instincts and IQ regarding running routes against zone coverage. Ultimately, Allen acknowledged that with Kincaid's play-making ability, he could be a true quarterback-friendly outlet, something that the Bills hope can happen as early as this season.

"To be honest, I didn't know what to expect," Kincaid said about his first preseason appearance. "There's not really a blueprint or whatever going into it. So I kind of just wanted to come in, put my head down and do my job."
