NFL Owners Meetings: Bills' Damar Hamlin & 'Health & Safety' Plans

"The best thing we can do is support him all the way through this and that is a big piece of it that is, mind, body and spirit.'' - Bills coach Sean McDermott on Damar Hamlin.

PHOENIX - The NFL owners meetings heat up this week in Phoenix and Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin is going to be central to part of the discussion as the league will visit on "health and safety'' issues ... while almost certainly celebrating the terrific work of support staff in both Buffalo and Cincinnati when it comes to Hamlin surviving his on-field life-or-death crisis.

But Hamlin's name will also surely pop up as it regards to him playing football again. ... and Bills coach Sean McDermott is ready for whatever scenario unfolds next.

"The amount of courage it's going to take to re-engage again is unbeknownst to many of us ... I'm ready to support him in any direction he decides to go, even if it's last-minute," McDermott said via NFL.com.

Hamlin, who turned 25 on Friday, posted on Instagram to say it was "a blessing to see another birthday,'' and he has expressed an interest in playing again after having gone into cardiac arrest on the field during a Monday Night Football game on Jan. 2. Bills GM Brandon Beane has indicated that Hamlin has "every intention to play," with a comeback is "trending in the right direction."

But McDermott may be taking the wisest approach here, with positivity regarding whatever happens next.

"The best thing we can do is support him all the way through this and that is a big piece of it that is, mind, body and spirit," he said.
