Bills to Draft Bijan Robinson As 'Perfect Luxury': Mel Kiper New NFL Mock

ESPN's media scout Mel Kiper Jr. labels Texas Longhorns star Bijan Robinson as being the Bills' "perfect'' pick at No. 27 in this April's NFL Draft.

We hate the word "perfect'' and we're always disturbed when it is used in the context of a football team's roster addition.

Who would be the "perfect'' acquisition for the Buffalo Bills at running back?

Oh, Jim Brown circa 1964, maybe?

So when ESPN's media scout Mel Kiper Jr. labels Texas Longhorns star Bijan Robinson as being the Bills' "perfect'' pick at No. 27 in this April's NFL Draft?

Well, we cringe. But we also perk up.

Kiper latest first-round NFL mock draft includes this remark: "I keep coming back to Robinson being perfect for this Bills offense. He could be a security blanket for Josh Allen in the pass game, and he can rip off chunk plays as a ball carrier. He breaks a ton of tackles and has tremendous vision. He’s the most complete back in this class.''

All of that stuff - except for the "perfect'' part - rings true. The best comp we're heard from a scout is to Saquon Barkley of the Giants. Barkley is 6-0, 230 pounds. Bijan is 6-0, 220. The combination of that size with the elusiveness ...

The Bills have seen running back Devin Singletary depart to the Texans and they have listened to the media idea of trading for Minnesota's Dalvin Cook to join younger brother James Cook here, and they are surely aware of the availability of Dallas Cowboys ex Ezekiel Elliott.

Oh, and maybe GM Brandon Beane add to the running backs room with Damien Harris, the Patriots ex, is enough; indeed, Harris probably kills the Zeke idea.

But we've got two NFL scout friends (neither in this case work for the Bills) who think that Bijan is, respectively, a "top-five'' and a "top-10'' talent in this draft. And what does Kiper say in that regard?

"Robinson is a top-10 prospect on my board, but his positional value means he’s going to drop into the 20s. I know Buffalo has James Cook and just added Damien Harris on a one-year deal, but Robinson is on another level.''

Kiper suggests that the Bills are "a team that can afford to target a luxury position in Round 1.'' We dislike the idea of a "luxury pick'' almost as much as we do a "perfect pick''; Buffalo is trying to build a Super Bowl roster and there's no room for "luxury'' there - only for the 53 best players.

But we will say this: Bijan Robinson is undoubtedly among the top 27 players in this draft. And if he really slides into the 20's? Well, "close to perfect'' is a phrase we might use.
