Buffalo Bills Ex Sergio Brown in Custody for Mother's Murder
A former Buffalo Bills defensive back is in custody Wednesday after his mother was murdered last month.
According to CNN, Illinois law enforcement officials have placed former Bills defensive back Sergio Brown in custody after being connected to the death of his mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Brown.
As the investigation began last month, police said they were informed by family members that they could not find or make contact with Myrtle Brown or 35-year-old Sergio Brown. Maywood, Illinois police initially started a missing persons search for the two, with Myrtle Brown found dead in a creek near her residence.
Sergio fled to Mexico and his whereabouts were known by Mexican police since Sept. 19. Yesterday, Sergio was deported from Mexico and arrested by American law enforcement near San Diego. Plans are being put into place to eventually have Sergio moved from San Diego to the Chicago area where the investigation can continue.
The Brown family has not been in contact with Sergio since Myrtle's death and his temporary disappearance after he fled to Mexico.
Sergio was a star out of Proviso East High School in his hometown of Maywood, and played at Notre Dame. He entered the National Football League as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and was a part-time starter for the New England Patriots, later playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts and Bills as part of his seven-year pro career.
The Bills represented Brown's final stop in the NFL, where he played eight games during the 2016 season.
