Buffalo Bills Lose 25-20 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Live In-Game Updates, Highlights

The Buffalo Bills will look to make their win streak international in Week 5's contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The beauty of football in England is it’s a wonderful start to a Sunday morning. The Week 5 slate will start bright and early, with the Buffalo Bills kicking off against the Jacksonville Jaguars at 9:30 a.m. (ET).

Whether you’re a die-hard fan setting the alarm to watch the Bills or waking up late to root for receiver Stefon Diggs to help your fantasy team in the second half, this one should have some fireworks attached.

Quarterback Josh Allen is playing at a level worthy of some hardware, leading Buffalo to three consecutive blowout victories. He’s completing a league-best 74.8% percent of his passes and is up to 11 total touchdowns, nine through the air. He’s managed to limit unnecessary hits and look comfortable within structure since the Week 1 loss to the New York Jets.

He’ll lead Buffalo into battle against a defense that is faring surprisingly well in 2023. Despite little depth in the secondary and a lack of development from a former first-overall pick, edge rusher Travon Walker, Jacksonville ranks top ten in expected points added per play and success rate.

The Bills’ defense, meanwhile, is off to a hot start. Their proclivity for producing turnovers has rendered them one of the best units in football, though they now have to address the absence of cornerback Tre’Davious White. Against a strong cast of characters surrounding quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars have the firepower to compete with anyone.

Finding the answers in the secondary and making Lawrence uncomfortable will be key to continuing the win streak. With edge rusher Von Miller’s return a “safe bet,” Buffalo may return to the States even stronger than they left them.

FIRST QUARTER

Jaguars First Drive: The Bills won the toss and deferred to the second half.

Jacksonville found success within structure on two consecutive flat routes. Running back Tank Bigsby couldn't get to the line of gain on third-and-1, though, and they were forced to punt.

Bills First Drive: Buffalo opened their day with a run to running back James Cook. After an incompletion on second down, Allen and Cook couldn't connect leading to a punt. The Jaguars will take possession with 11:09 remaining in the first quarter.

Jaguars Second Drive: Receiver Calvin Ridley was introduced to the action on an end around. After a chunk play to receiver Christian Kirk, a pair of runs to 'back Travis Etienne put them in the red zone.

Ridley received an end-around touch again on the ensuing first-and-10. A third-down stop would be negated by a Buffalo penalty, earning Jacksonville a new set of downs. Lineman Walker Little was injured on the play. Linebacker Matt Milano was also helped off the field.

On the next play, Etienne would be stuffed at the line, but defensive lineman Kingsley Jonathan had to limp off the field. Without edge rusher Greg Rousseau, Buffalo is already getting thin up front.

Receiver Zay Jones high-pointed the ball in the end zone for a stellar touchdown grab. A roughing the passer gave them an opportunity to go for two, and Etienne found his way into the end zone.

The Jaguars lead 8-0 with 6:59 remaining in the first quarter.

Bills Second Drive: Buffalo's second drive fared about as well as the first.

Allen hit tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid after a fruitless first-down run, but couldn't move the chains. Milano was reportedly getting carted off during the commercial break.

Jaguars Third Drive: Jacksonville was moving the ball pretty well this drive, starting with a Lawrence scramble. Kirk caught a 20-yard pass, and Ridley found himself a 14-yard reception. An end-zone target to tight end Evan Engram fell incomplete.

Ultimately, they'd settle for a 44-yard field goal.

The Jaguars lead 11-0 with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter.

Bills Third Drive: Receiver Gabe Davis and running back Damien Harris found their first action, with a nine-yard catch and a three-yard rush that resulted in a first down.

SECOND QUARTER

A five-yard Harris run made it third-and-3, but Allen's scramble drill resulted in an incompletion, ending the drive.

Jaguars Fourth Drive: Set back by a penalty, this series started with a first-and-15.

After making it third-and-4, Engram caught a pass beyond the sticks, but a Sean McDermott challenge flag would bring it to a review. The challenge was unsuccessful.

Jacksonville has made it a point to stretch the field horizontally with receiver runs. Kirk turned one into an explosive, but it was negated by a holding call. They were not able to find a new set of downs.

The Bills will start their next drive with 10:15 remaining in the second quarter.

Bills Fourth Drive: Starting from their own seven-yard line, Allen hit receiver Stefon Diggs for an important first down, giving Buffalo some breathing room.

The Jaguars made a strong play on a Cook run to make it third-and-7. An Allen checkdown would not move the chains.

Jaguars Fifth Drive: A second-down penalty would negate Jacksonville's first-down progress.

After a checkdown to Engram wasn't enough for a first, so they punted. Buffalo will take over with 5:44 remaining in the half.

Bills Fifth Drive: Diggs was targeted on the first play of the drive, but an Allen fastball wasn't hauled in.

Receiver Deonte Harty made a catch on third down and made an effort after the catch to add a few extra yards. On a play-action pass on first down, Cook made a 17-yard catch to put Buffalo in Jacksonville territory.

An Allen scramble would make it second-and-3, but running back Latavius Murray couldn't move the chains. Allen would again scramble, this time for a new set of downs, right before the two-minute warning.

The drive would end with an Allen heater to Diggs, putting Buffalo on the board.

The Bills trail 11-7 with 1:14 remaining in the first half.

Jaguars Sixth Drive: Firmly in a two-minute drill, the Jaguars let Etienne operate in space, breaking off a big play to get into Bills' territory.

A Ridley 16-yard catch would get them to the 20-yard line.

Defensive end A.J. Epenesa forced a fumble on Lawrence to end the half.

The Bills trail 11-7 at halftime.

HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER

Bills Sixth Drive: Buffalo had a chance to take the lead coming out of the half, but failed to get anything going.

After just one first down, the Bills swiftly punted the ball away.

Jaguars Seventh Drive: A couple of penalties would put Jacksonville inside its own three-yard line. An unnecessary roughness call would help move the chains, and two big Jaguars runs would help move them into Buffalo territory.

Fumble! A wacky snap and helpless attempt to get rid of the football led to some chaos, but the ball found itself out of bounds. A third-and-36 run was unsurprisingly unsucessful, giving the Bills the football after a punt.

Bills Seventh Drive: Bombs away!

A 48-yard strike from Allen to Diggs kickstarted Buffalo's drive. A Davis drop would later set up a third-and-10, where Allen was forced out of structure and couldn't connect with his tight end.

Jaguars Eighth Drive: Etienne's drive-opening rush was fruitless. The next play, a pass to Engram, was swatted down at the line of scrimmage. Ridley found himself with the ball in his hands on third down to move the chains.

Cornerback Taron Johnson went down, clinging to his knee, but it seems he was able to avoid the cart.

A third-down catch from Kirk would put the Jaguars past midfield. Etienne would do a good job of finding the sticks on the next thir-down opportunity, and Ridley had a 14-yard catch to put them inside the 25.

FOURTH QUARTER

Epenesa oped the fourth-quarter festivities with his second tipped pass of the day.

Lawrence would fumble soon after, giving Buffalo another chance to take the lead.

Bills Eighth Drive: Buffalo quickly crossed midfield. A holding call on tackle Dion Dawkins would make it second-and-15.

On third-and-15, Allen threw a deep 50/50 ball to Diggs, but it was intercepted by Jaguars cornerback Darious Williams.

Jaguars Ninth Drive: Lawrence opened the drive with a completion to Ridley and a new set of downs. On third-and-1, a false start set them back five yards. However, a defensive penalty would give them a free play -- a completion to Etienne.

Etienne made his impact felt on this drive, rushing for 10 yards on third down and 11 on the next play. Jacksonville is down to the six-yard line.

He would finish the drive with a touchdown.

The Jaguars lead 18-7 with 7:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Bills Ninth Drive: An offensive hold would send Buffalo's first play of the drive backward. On first-and-20, Allen hit Davis to move the chains.

He would scramble short of the sticks, but that too was negated by a hold. Poor tackling from the Jaguars would turn Knox and Cook's catches into a third-and-2.

A couple of Jacksonville penalties would put the Bills deep into Jaguars' territory. Allen was sacked by the identically-named Jaguars edge rusher, but contact to the helmet gave them a new set of downs.

Moving to his left, Allen would hit Davis for a score, but it was called back for a questionable penalty. On the next play, he'd return right back to him for a touchdown

The Bills trail 18- 13 with 4:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Jaguars Tenth Drive: Predictably, Jacksonville further leaned on Etienne as they tried to burn the clock.

On third-and-4, Lawrence dropped a potentially game-clinching dime to Ridley.

An Etienne breakaway run would essentially put this one on ice.

The Jaguars lead 25-13 with 2:56 remaining.

Bills Tenth Drive: Buffalo isn't ready to retire this one just yet. The first play of the drive was a deep completion to Harty, and he found Davis out of structure immediately after.

Already, they are in the red zone.

Allen was pushed into the end zone before the two-minute warning. This one might get interesting.

The Bills trail 25-20 with 2:11 remaining.

Jaguars Eleventh Drive: Jacksonville recovered the onside kick, attempting to run out the clock.

A few Etienne runs and they'd punt the ball with about 30 seconds to play. Buffalo fumbled it, though the ball bounced out of bounds.

Bills Eleventh Drive: Diggs misfired a lateral, ending this one.

FINAL: The Bills lose, 25-20, to fall to 3-2.
