Bills' Josh Allen Wants to Mentor Young QBs: 'I Can Help!'
For Josh Allen, having the opportunity to give back to younger quarterbacks holds deep importance to him.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback went on the Pat McAfee show and was asked about quarterbacks being compared to him, specifically Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson. Allen noted that he was impressed by Richardson and he spoke about his willingness to help young quarterbacks.
Allen got to see Richardson and speak to him after the game on Aug. 12 when Buffalo played the Colts in the preseason. Richardson was 7 of 12 for 67 yards and threw an interception.
"He's a specimen," Allen said of Richardson on The Pat McAfee Show. "Physical freak, he can spin the ball [and] he threw an absolute dime against us. It wasn't caught but it was an absolute dime. Just talking right after the game, if there's anything I can do to help you, I'm all about pushing the game forward. If there's a question he may have, reach out to me...I want to help people out. I don't think this is a time to hold things in because I can help them out."
The comparisons from Allen to Richardson aren't far-fetched because of their similar skillsets and how they were viewed entering the league. Similar to Richardson, Allen was viewed as a project and someone that'd need multiple years to develop and reach his full potential if things panned out.
Five seasons later, Allen is viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in football.
While Richardson shouldn't have such lofty expectations placed on him right away, it's proof that with the right coaching and development, his skillset will give him a chance to end the Colts' quarterback woes.
And for Allen, if his advice can help Richardson live up to expectations as a No. 4 pick, it's proof of how important it is to give back to the game and those who are in the same shoes he used to wear.
