LeSean McCoy Defends Bills QB Josh Allen: 'He Wins Games!'

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has faced harsh criticism after a four-turnover game in the season opener, but ex-NFL running back LeSean McCoy is having none of it.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has always had his critics, but those critics have grown much louder over the past week.

In Monday's season-opener against the New York Jets, Allen looked more like the wild card he was earlier in his career than the MVP candidate he has been recently. He completed 29 of 41 passes for 236 yards, but threw three interceptions and lost a fumble for four turnovers on the night. This marked Allen's first four-turnover game since 2019, and his costly mistakes helped the Jets stay in the game while their offense sputtered.

The critics were out in full force after Monday's performance, with Allen himself even saying he was the reason for the Bills' loss. However, former Bills running back and current Fox Sports analyst LeSean McCoy isn't ready to jump on the bandwagon just yet. On Fox Sports' "Speak," McCoy said his opinion on Allen has not wavered after one game.

"I would put him as a top-three quarterback in this league... Over the last three years, his total is 37 wins, 12 losses, that's second-best in the NFL... One thing Josh Allen does, he wins games."

Despite his praise, McCoy didn't make excuses for Allen's performance, even calling it "one of the worst [games] I've ever seen him play."

There's no denying that turnovers have been a problem throughout Allen's career. He has thrown at least 10 interceptions each season, except for in 2019 when he had nine, and had eight fumbles each year as well. Last season, he threw 14 interceptions, tied for second-most in the league, and had 13 fumbles, losing five of them.

With those turnovers comes a lot of positives, though. Allen has become one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the league, putting up yards and touchdowns seemingly at will most of the time. For his flaws, Allen has helped the Bills finish in the top five for total offense each of the last three seasons.

After a rough opening week, Allen and the Bills will look to get back on track when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
