'Same S***, Different Day': Bills QB Josh Allen Takes Blame For Jets Loss
For much of Monday night's game at MetLife Stadium, the New York Jets were lifeless after they lost Aaron Rodgers to a potential season-ending injury.
Luckily for them, Josh Allen was there to keep them afloat.
Allen was 29 of 41 for 236 yards, threw one touchdown and three interceptions, all of which went to Jets safety Jordan Whitehead while also losing a fumble in the Buffalo Bills' 22-16 overtime loss to their division rival in prime time.
"Same s***, same place, different day," Allen said after the game. " ... It sucks when you feel like you're the reason, and I am the reason why we lost tonight."
Allen's first two interceptions didn't cost Buffalo, but the final pick and fumble led to 10 unanswered points from New York and gave them a 16-13 lead with under two minutes left in the game.
Sure, he led Buffalo on the game-tying drive to force overtime, but Buffalo shouldn't have been in that position. If Allen takes care of the ball, the Bills likely coast to a big divisional win. But he couldn't get out of his own way.
As a result, New York hung around and won on a 65-yard punt return by Xavier Gipson.
There's no disputing Allen's importance to Buffalo or how good he is. When he's on, Allen is in the discussion for one of the best quarterbacks in the game. But when he's off, he makes game-changing plays that cost the Bills. Which version of Allen shows up has become too much of a question mark as of late.
After Rodgers was hurt four snaps into the game, it should have been a layup for Allen and the Bills. In a much more competitive AFC East and conference as a whole, if the Bills can't beat a Zach Wilson-led Jets team, who can they compete with if Allen continues to have games like this?
Sometimes, less is more. If Allen can rein it in a bit, it'll go a long way for Buffalo.
