Bills RB Nyheim Hines Undergoes Surgery on Torn ACL
After landing on the non-football injury list last month, Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines has officially taken the first step on the road back.
According to NFL Network, Hines underwent successful ACL reconstruction surgery on Tuesday. He will miss the entire 2023 season and his recovery time is roughly a year.
News of Hines' injury broke on July 24, with reports soon after revealing that he suffered the injury in a jet ski crash.
The nature of Hines' injury has caused some tensions between him and the Bills. Due to the injury occurring away from the field, Hines and the team have reportedly been locked in a financial dispute over how much money he may or may not owe back. Hines' agent even released a not-so-subtle tweet regarding the situation.
The Bills acquired Hines in a mid-season trade from the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 1. He didn't have too much of a role in the offense, recording just six carries for -3 yards and five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in nine games.
However, Hines gave Buffalo a storybook moment in the regular-season finale against the New England Patriots. In the aftermath of Damar Hamlin's injury just days earlier, Hines returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to bring Bills Mafia to its feet. He then returned another kickoff for a score later in the game, becoming the first player in over a decade to have two return touchdowns in one game.
In March, Hines agreed to a revised contract to stay in Buffalo through the 2024 season. As he embarks on the road to recovery, the Bills are hoping he can come back strong next season.
