Bills 'Checked In' With Odell Beckham Jr. in Free Agency; Contract Coming?

The Buffalo Bills remain a team to gossip about when it comes to potentially signing Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency. But Buffalo now appears more serious about making a move.

The Buffalo Bills' potential pairing with Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. continues to be a talking point early in the free agency this offseason.

Now, after being one of the many teams to attend his recent private workout in Arizona, the Bills have reportedly "checked in" with OBJ regarding a contract, per reports Saturday from NFL insider and The Score's Jordan Schultz.

"Bills have also checked in on Odell Beckham, Jr., source says," Schultz tweeted. "There’s been real interest in the past - inc dinner at Josh Allen’s house, so this isn’t a surprise. The price would have to make sense, but Buffalo is worth monitoring as another potential OBJ suitor."

The Bills, who created around $37 million in cap space combined with some recent contract restructuring, still must remain strict with themselves, and are unlikely anyways to gamble on OBJ with a huge contract.

After reports from Pro Football Talk indicated that OBJ was eyeing a deal worth about $20 million per year, the Bills were seemingly out of race that they couldn't afford to be in.

But the price that "makes sense" that Schultz mentions now seems more obtainable after Beckham Jr. himself cleared the air about what his asking amount is, essentially saying that he at least wants more than $4 million a year.

However, if the Bills are serious about pursuing OBJ, the biggest asterisk surrounding him - and the reason giving him a big contract is a huge gamble - is that he hasn't played in well over a year after suffering a torn ACL in the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in February 2022. That was the last time he appeared in an NFL game.

In 12 total games with LA (including postseason play), Beckham Jr. totaled 48 catches for 593 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. This included a much-needed performance in a 20-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship, as Beckham Jr. had nine catches for 113 yards.

If OBJ wants a huge contract, he'll have to get close to this production with the Bills or wherever he signs.
