Bills OFFICIAL: Ed Oliver Signs Extension; What's Next?

Ed Oliver is signing an extension with the Buffalo Bills and will continue to anchor the defensive line.

The Buffalo Bills are making a significant investment towards the future of their defensive line.

The team announced on Monday morning that Ed Oliver has officially signed a four-year, $68 million extension to keep him in western New York until the 2027 season.

The extension kicks in after the 2023 season, where Oliver is set to earn $10.8 million with his fifth-year option.

The former No. 9 overall draft pick played 13 games for the Bills last season, totaling 34 tackles, nine for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. While Oliver has yet to perform better than his rookie year stats where had 43 tackles and five sacks, he has still been a key piece for Buffalo's defensive line. In four seasons, he's totaled 151 tackles, 14.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and 11 passes defended.

Someone that's excited to have Oliver back long-term is head coach Sean McDermott, who drafted him back in 2019.

"I've seen him develop, on the field, off the field," McDermott said at the NFL Combine. "Last season ... I thought he affected the quarterback maybe more so than his sack production would show."

In 2023 and beyond, Oliver is expected to lead a front seven with All-Pro linebacker Von Miller, newly-signed Leonard Floyd, Matt Milano, DaQuan Jones, Gregory Rousseau and Matt Milano.
