Bills 'Expressing Interest' in Signing Seahawks DT Poona Ford - Report
The Buffalo Bills aren't currently in the business of big spending.
But ...
Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Poona Ford has had five solid seasons during his time in the Pacific Northwest.
And as he entered this offseason set to be an unrestricted free agent, the reality had set in that his days as a Seahawk were likely numbered.
Ford's name has floated around in rumors involving others teams, though there's been no major reports indicating that the 27-year-old has gained true traction to sign with a new team.
And now? Ford finds his name connected to the Bills, as the team has reportedly "expressed interest" in the former Texas Longhorn, per reports from Syracuse.com.
"Per source, the Bills have expressed interest in DT Poona Ford," the report said. "... Making the financials work on a player of Ford's caliber could be the tricky part."
The Bills could use a player with Ford's talent. While being consistently available over the past few seasons, he's also totaled 182 tackles, 7.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four passes defended in 76 career games.
However, the Bills are busy dealing with their own cap situation. The team created around $37 million in cap space combined with the recent contract restructurings of quarterback Josh Allen, receiver Stefon Diggs and linebacker Von Miller, and still must remain strict with themselves.
Per Spotrac, Ford's market value could currently be worth around $9.2 million per year, which might be too steep for a Bills team that is likely focused on using their spending toward offensive talent this offseason.
If Buffalo can sign Ford for an affordable price that's a little lower than he's currently projected to earn, the Bills defense would be adding a solid interior defender that would likely come in and start right away.
But at this point in the offseason, speculation remains just that ... speculation. As of now, the Bills, though there's reported interest, don't appear too likely to be aggressive on Ford's front.
