Bills QB Josh Allen Rumored as Madden 24 Cover Athlete
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has accomplished quite a lot in the NFL so far. In his first five seasons, Allen has led the Bills back to prominence, finished as an MVP finalist twice and emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
If a new rumor is true, Allen may soon be able to add another feat to his résumé. According to Buffalo Fanatics, the Bills star will "likely" be the cover athlete for the upcoming Madden NFL 24 video game.
If this rumor is true, then Allen will become the first Bills player in franchise history to grace the cover of the iconic gaming franchise.
He will be far from the first quarterback to do so, though. A quarterback has graced the Madden cover in four of the last six years, with Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes both doing so twice after sharing it for Madden NFL 22.
There was no cover athlete for Madden NFL 23, as the cover instead featured the late John Madden, the game's namesake, to honor him after his passing in December 2021.
Of course, Allen would also have to avoid the dreaded "Madden Curse" if he does appear on the cover. Essentially, many cover athletes have gone on to have poor seasons afterwards, be it due to injury, under-performance or something else. The curse has noticeably been less prevalent recently, though. Most notably, Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV in the same season he appeared on the cover for Madden NFL 20.
If Allen does wind up being this year's cover athlete, he'll be looking to replicate that success for himself.
