Bills Coach Sean McDermott Misses Training Camp Practice
Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott missed the team's training camp practice on Tuesday morning while attending to a personal matter, per multiple reports.
However, he's expected to return to St. John Fisher University, where the team's camp is being held, later Tuesday afternoon. The Bills aren't practicing on Wednesday.
McDermott is doubling as the head coach and defensive coordinator this season, so his absence from training camp is certainly a noticeable one. But after the trials and tribulations that last season brought, he's ready for what's ahead.
"We definitely look at what's ahead of us as opposed to what's behind us," McDermott said a training camp. "Those experiences you take with us from a learning standpoint or an experience standpoint, like Damar's situation and many other situations. It makes you stronger as you go forward. That's a lesson to my kids and everyone out there."
Ever since OTAs in May, McDermott has been embracing the play-calling side of things that helps bring him back to his coaching roots.
"To me, the head coach's seat is a leadership seat and that's all good, and I love that part of it. But what you miss the most is rolling up your sleeves, getting in with the players side-by-side and coaching and getting in that defensive room, in this case for me and really getting down to the details," McDermott said at OTAs. "So I missed that, and it feels good to be back doing that again."
The Bills will of course continue their training camp routine with or without McDermott, but having him back after Wednesday's day off will certainly make the operation run that much smoother.
