Bills Sign Ex Chiefs DB; Patrick Mahomes Informant?

The Buffalo Bills signed former Kansas City Chiefs safety Zayne Anderson on Friday. Could he provide the Bills with some tips against Patrick Mahomes for their matchup in the 2023 regular season?

The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that they've signed former Kansas City Chiefs safety Zayne Anderson to a two-year deal.

The addition helps bring depth to a secondary that was banged up this past season, as injuries to Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde and the obvious loss of Damar Hamlin resulted in a group that performed below expectations while being riddled with ailments.

But could Anderson's addition be a way for Buffalo to get some intel on Chiefs quarterback and recently-crowned Super Bowl LVII MVP Patrick Mahomes? Maybe ... or maybe we need to throw our tinfoil hats away.

While this is unlikely to be the motive behind the signing, Anderson certainly could provide some tips for Buffalo when the Bills travel to Arrowhead once again during the 2023 regular season. The Bills will also be looking to secure another potential postseason meeting with Mahomes, but Anderson's "help" would hardly be enough to slow down the NFL's hottest player.

Still, the Bills are adding a Super Bowl champion in Anderson, who has seen plenty of postseason action. Despite only playing in seven career games during the regular season, he played in three postseason games in 2021, recording a tackle in the AFC Wild Card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last season.

Anderson will likely have to work harder than most to earn a significant role in Buffalo's secondary. But his Chiefs knowledge will be hard to overlook when the Bills travel to Kansas City for yet another matchup in the regular. Now, Buffalo can only hope a second matchup will be within reach come playoff time.
