Are Bills Fans Ranked ‘Most Deserving' of (Finally!) Super Bowl Win?
The Buffalo Bills and their fans have endured no shortage of heartbreak over the years.
of course, the most infamous example of said heartbreak came in the early 1990s, when the Bills made four straight Super Bowls but lost each one. Then there's the infamous 17-year playoff drought, as Buffalo didn't make the postseason in the 21st Century until 2017. Even now that the Bills have emerged as perennial contenders, they've had some brutal playoff defeats in recent seasons.
Bills fans, and even many NFL fans at large, want to see the heartbreak end, and the only way to do that is with a Super Bowl victory. NFL.com's Nick Shook even named the Bills as the team most deserving of a championship due to all the suffering they have endured.
"Look, while the pain of losing four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s likely isn't nearly as intense as it once was, it still seems to linger as a reminder of what Buffalo failed to accomplish," Shook wrote. "And with each year that passes in which the Chiefs or Bengals prevent the Bills from reaching the Super Bowl, one can sense that same gloomy cloud of dread creeping closer... Buffalo believes this team is good enough to win a Lombardi Trophy, which would also bury the heartbreak of the '90s once and for all."
The Bills are one of 12 teams to have never won the Super Bowl, but among those teams, they are tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the most appearances at four. Four teams, the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, have never even made an appearance in the big game.
Shook wasn't the only NFL.com analyst to weigh in, but he was the only one to choose Buffalo. Five other analysts weighed in and each chose a different team. Among the teams chosen were the Lions, Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. The Jets and Cowboys are the only teams who have won the Super Bowl before, but have not won in 55 and 28 years, respectively.
As the Bills are in the midst of their contention window, finally winning that ever-elusive Lombardi Trophy remains the ultimate goal.
