Buffalo Bills' Taylor Rapp Suffers Scary Injury vs. New York Jets
Late in the second half against the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills defensive back Taylor Rapp suffered a scary upper-body injury. He was taken from the field at Highmark Stadium in an ambulance, but was able to move his hands.
CBS reported that Rapp suffered a neck injury, but was not taken to the hospital.
With 1:10 remaining in the second quarter, Rapp and cornerback Taron Johnson collided while attempting to tackle Jets running back Breece Hall. Johnson immediately required medical attention, but as Rapp began to jog off the field, he collapsed.
After receiving the necessary medical attention, Rapp was eventually taken off the field in an ambulance.
This injury marks the third time in a calendar year that Buffalo has witnessed such a startling injury to one of its own. Safety Damar Hamlin endured a near-death experience against the Cincinnati Bengals last season. That game would ultimately be suspended, and thanks to the work of medical professionals, Hamlin made a full recovery.
The safety was on the sideline when Rapp and Johnson collided.
Earlier this season, Bills running back Damien Harris laid motionless on the field after a neck injury against the New York Giants. He too was taken to a nearby hospital. Buffalo announced he had full movement of his extremities, though he remains out indefinitely on injured reserve.
Sunday was a brutal reminder of the physical toll this sport takes, sending the Bills and their fans into yet another breathless pause.
The game would resume play, and Buffalo leads 16-6 at halftime. Bills Central will provide more medical updates when possible.
