Should Bills Seek Trade For Titans RB Derrick Henry?
The Tennessee Titans are reportedly shopping running back Derrick Henry, and the Buffalo Bills were noted as having +500 odds to sign the seven-year veteran along with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
But do the odds indicate it's a good idea? Nope.
The Bills seem like a weird fit for the superstar running back. With limited cap space, a roster with two running backs currently under contract, and an offense centered around Josh Allen, it's unclear what criteria was used when determining Buffalo to be a favorite of possible landing spots for Henry.
If the Bills are in need of a third back, they'll have opportunities to draft one next month.
Henry's positives are well-known and obvious.
He's a beast in the backfield who's been nothing short of consistent during his career, rushing for 1,000 yards in over half his seasons in the league, and scoring double-digit touchdowns in each of the last five seasons.
The negatives?
Running backs, maybe more than any position, burn out early. Henry is now 29 and has a ton of mileage on his body, averaging a ridiculous 273.3 carrier per season over the last six. He's rapidly approaching an age when even generational running backs hit the proverbial wall.
Henry has avoided major injuries during his career, but the combination of his age and career carries put him in a category where he is a high risk for a major injury in 2023.
The Bills might be a favorite to land Henry in 2023, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea.
