Bills Rumor: Trade for Derrick Henry? Buffalo is Betting Favorite for Titans RB
Can the Buffalo Bills benefit from this crash of the Titans? Prognosticators from Oddschecker.com seem to favor the possibility.
Already 2.5 games removed from the AFC South lead, the Tennessee Titans (2-4) appear to holding a fire sale that would get Spirit Halloween's Nashville scouts salivating. The Titans got things started by dealing Kevin Byard to the NFC-leading Philadelphia Eagles, leading some to believe that other stars like running back Derrick Henry could be next.
The Bills are poised to cash, as odds for a Henry trade shared with Bills Central place Western New York at the top at +200. Buffalo is granted a 33.3 percent chance to land Henry's services, just ahead of the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs (+300, 25 percent).
"Oddsmakers believe there’s just under a 60 percent chance that he could be traded to either the Bills or the Chiefs which would add an extra dimension to two Super Bowl contenders," Oddschecker's Leon Blackman said in a statement. "Sportsbooks have further reacted to the (Byard) trade news by cutting the Titans' chances of making the postseason to 20 percent."
Though Henry is a little ways away from the statistical dominance that has defined his Nashville career, he still remains one of the most consistent performers on the team. He currently ranks 10th in the league in rushing (425 yards) and has also added 117 yards on 11 receptions. Tennessee does seem somewhat prepared for life after Henry thanks to the fledgling talents of third-round rookie Tyjae Spears, who has averaged 5.5 yards an attempt on 31 carries.
The Bills are looking for some semblance of offensive consistency after back-to-back offensive duds. They were able to survive a 14-9 snoozer against the lowly New York Giants but struggled further in a shocking 29-25 loss to the equally woebegone New England Patriots. While the Bills have enjoyed decent contributions from new primary back James Cook, they mustered only 3.4 yards a carry on Sunday in Foxborough.
For the time being, Buffalo (4-3) will look to get back on the right swing of things on Thursday night when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8:15 p.m. ET, Amazon Prime Video).
